A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Pocoyo Playset - Number Party presents the concepts around number sense in a small collection of interactive activities. With help from the characters from the online TV series, kids practice estimating small quantities and determining which group of objects has more or fewer items. There's some Spanish vocabulary scattered throughout for kids to learn simple number-sense words, such as "more" or "less," in both English and Spanish. Narration for the parts of the app is also available in English or Spanish, and users can easily toggle back and forth between the two languages. Parents need to allow access to their device's microphone for an activity in which kids can record their voice narrating a story. The story is saved within the app, but if parents allow access to their device's camera roll, it can be saved there as well. Read the developer's privacy policy for details on how your information is collected and shared.

What’s It About?
POCOYO PLAYSET - NUMBER PARTY is all about number sense -- or an understanding of what numbers mean. Drag pictures to the number machine to see a short animation demonstrating the meaning of number vocabulary such as "add," "take away," "more," or "less" and hear the target word in English and Spanish. Help Pato deliver ice cream before it melts by quickly choosing which of two groups of items has more or less. Quickly assess quantity to pop the right number of balloons and keep party favors from floating away. Or design and narrate a short number-sense story with stickers, drawing tools, and the microphone.
Is It Any Good?
Sweet graphics and gentle narration provide a simple, straightforward, and generally appealing basic introduction to understanding numbers and quantity. The balloon pop, ice cream race, and create story activities are the most fun and interactive. The first two even have multiple levels of difficulty to grow with kids as they want more of a challenge. Animations that introduce number-sense vocabulary are certainly sweet but may disappoint. There's only a small set of concepts, no opportunity for interaction, and incomplete instructions for how to use the "math machine." In fact, the whole of Pocoyo Playset - Number Party is pretty limited in what it offers. If your kids already love Pocoyo, this could be a nice, harmless opportunity for them to interact with familiar characters and get a small dose of basic number-sense practice at the same time. And with lots of how-to instruction, even young kids can easily play. Parents looking specifically for a number-sense app, though, may want to look for something more in depth than Pocoyo Playset - Number Party.
