A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Ease of Play

Moving Thomas (or the train of your choosing) around the tracks is fairly easy -- and the game offers a pair of ways to handle inclines, in case using the gyroscope is a bit too challenging for young players.

Violence & Scariness
Sexy Stuff

A "What's New" button on the app's main menu takes users to a page advertising new Thomas DVDs and other HiT Entertainment programs. The app itself is also tied to a popular children's television program and could steer kids to watch it.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Thomas Tilt and Go is racing game for toddlers, based on the popular children's television series. Players must collect objects along the track to advance in the game. There's a time challenge, which encourages players to keep moving forward, but the app does not present any real hurdles. Kids will enjoy the chance to play as Thomas, Percy, or Toby.

Scarred me for life

I downloaded this video game yesterday and when Thomas the Train appeared the face was so scarring that I cannot even imagine who would create this game!

Is it any good?

There's nothing particularly educational about Thomas Tilt and Go, but kids who are big fans of the television show will enjoy the chance to control some of their favorite characters. It's not a challenging game, either. As long as the player keeps Thomas moving forward, he or she will easily earn enough points to advance with time to spare. (They're rewarded with short clips from the television show.) The upside of this is kids won't get frustrated, but unless they're die-hard fans of the show, the might get bored after one or two tracks. The gameplay is virtually identical from level to level. Is it worth $2.99? No. But if the price falls, it's a good, safe addition for young children
