What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Trainz Simulator is a simulation game that puts you in control of one or several trains running a variety of routes. The game is targeted at an enthusiast audience and doesn't go out of its way to welcome casual users. There is an "easy" mode of driving the trains, but it's still much more advanced than any standard app. While there's nothing objectionable here for younger children, those who ask for it simply because they love trains will likely get very frustrated, very fast.

Is It Any Good?
TRAINZ SIMULATOR is clearly aimed at true enthusiasts. For a general audience, the app can be described in a single word: Intimidating. Even in its easy mode, this app is complicated -- certainly too complicated for young kids. For those who want to learn more about the locomotive world, though, there's plenty to discover here. The app has a ton of options, including letting players create their own routes and environments. And the thorough collection of train types (and accompanying information about each) is a primer for newcomers.
