A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Educational Value

Kids can learn numbers 1 through 12. The catchy tunes will help kids learn to count and recognize numbers, and singing along also develops literacy skills. Kids see the words of the song on the screen, too, a great pre-reading activity. Coloring develops fine-motor skills that help with writing, and kids also practice writing the letters. The sea creatures serve as math manipulatives for kids to count. Wee Sing & Learn 123 is a well-rounded early learning game for preschoolers.

Ease of Play

Kids tap or drag or trace in each activity or can work in Auto Play mode to automatically advance through the 12 number songs and videos.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Wee Sing & Learn 123 combines counting songs using familiar tunes (like Are you Sleeping?) with counting and sea creatures to help preschoolers learn numbers from 1 to 12. In Sing & Count mode, pauses between each number's song give kids the chance to count, reinforcing the number. In Auto Play mode, the twelve songs play continuously for about 11 minutes total. The short interactive, educational music videos teach the numbers, and activities like counting fish and tracing numerals reinforce the numbers.

What's it about?

Kids choose from different number-related activities. In Count Animals, they count animals, dragging each into place, hearing the numbers and seeing the numerals. In Explore 123, they tap the numeral to hear its name, and in Draw 123, they trace numerals. The bulk of content is Sing & Count, where kids learn numbers singing along to catchy, familiar tunes. Auto Play advances through the numbers while Sing & Count stops after each number for a counting activity. Kids can also color picture of sea creatures in the Coloring Book.

Is it any good?

WEE SING & LEARN 123 features well-produced songs and bright videos of cartoon sea animals that will engage kids. Music helps kids remember and develops literacy skills, so, even though the focus is on numbers, kids are develop reading skills, too. There's a lot of content included to keep kids engaged and focused on numbers. The songs are catchy and easy to pick up on, and with the songs, videos, and activities, kids will hear, see, and count each number repeatedly. While the coloring book is not number-related, it's worth mentioning because of its versatility. Kids can choose to draw on a blank page, color the picture freehand choosing from several tools and colors, or smart-color, choosing their tools and colors, but automatically staying in the lines.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Make up your own hand motions for the songs, using your fingers to show the numbers.

  • Music engages kids' brains and helps with memory and with literacy. Sing together often.
