What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that What Were Dinosaurs Like? is an educational game with a variety of activities related to dinosaurs and paleontology. Despite the obvious appeal for the preschool set, the app relies on reading for the activities and has some logic-based activities -- like putting a sequence in order -- that may be challenging for little kids without adult support. Kids may also be confused by the other animal characters who appear alongside the dinosaurs. Read the app's privacy policy to find out about the information collected and shared.

What’s It About?
WHAT WERE DINOSAURS LIKE? helps answer that common question for kids through a variety of games and activities. There are four content areas for kids to explore: Carnivores, Flyers?, Herbivores, and Paleontology. The first three explore creatures from the age of the dinosaurs, while the last focuses on the science of paleontology. Each section has three to four activities that ask kids to sort, group, match, and uncover related information. The whole experience is hosted by two human characters and a mischievous cat.
Is It Any Good?
This serves as a solid introduction to dinosaurs and paleontology for kids who are abe to read and understand sequences (like steps from egg to adult dinosaur), but it has a few flaws. What Were Dinosaurs Like? falls into a difficult area where it's too challenging content-wise for most preschoolers but not in-depth enough to satisfy the curiosity of elementary school kids. There's definitely learning to be had for kids who aren't already experts, but there aren't enough fun activities or variety to give it much replay value.
