What's the Story?

In I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE III: VENGEANCE IS MINE, Jennifer (Sarah Butler) is living a reclusive life in the city, haunted by the trauma of being brutally sexually assaulted by a group of men. She attends a support group where she meets rebellious fellow survivor Marla (Jen Landon), and the two quickly find common ground in their anger. Seeing that the system keeps letting victims down, they decide to take matters into their own violent hands.

Kids say ( 1 ):

A direct sequel to the original 2010 remake, this slightly more promising third film completely disregards the plot of the misguided second movie. I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance Is Mine picks up with the original character of Jennifer recovering from the trauma of her attack. This time around, the story is very much told through the female character's eyes and spends only occasional flashbacks focusing on actual scenes of rape. Other than one attempted assault, women are not violated on-screen; instead, disturbing tales are heard via a rape support group. Jennifer's thirst for vengeance then is less driven by her own trauma and more from the experiences of the other women and her increasing frustration with a system that fails to dish out justice. The character of Marla is a breath of fresh air, and it's a shame she's not featured for more of the movie, but she serves a purpose as the catalyst for Jennifer's increasing violence. The movie still remains disappointing and tastelessly gory in parts, but it's not the worst in the franchise by far.
