Love Me Love Me
What's the Story?
June (Mia Jenkins) and her artist mom move to Milan, where June starts school at an affluent private institution in LOVE ME LOVE ME. She's quickly befriended by Amelia (Andrea Guo) and Blaze (Michelangelo Vizzini), then finds herself embroiled in a love triangle between two lifelong friends with a difficult past, James (Pepe Barroso) and Will (Luca Melucci). Each also has a dark side, which will impact June and everyone around her.
Is It Any Good?
Judging by Amazon's success with the Culpa series, there's an audience for lowest-denominator teenage love-hate tales, but this one has little to recommend it. As in the After series, we are asked in Love Me Love Me to forgive traumatized boys for mistreating girls. That's a poor set-up to draw viewers into a love story, making the male characters unlikeable and the female characters pitiable, but the characters here never really redeem themselves. The MMA fighting, teen sex, and Euro-pudding of accents might be trying to appeal to a broader audience, but they do nothing to fortify characters or story. Both are a mess, and so is this film.
