What's the Story?

STREE 2 once again finds the town of Chanderi troubled by a supernatural monster who is abducting its residents. Only this time, rather than it being the town's men under threat, it's the town's women who start to go missing. Once again it's up to Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), the unnamed woman (Shraddha Kapoor), and their friends to try to save the day.

Is It Any Good?

This horror-comedy sequel has none of the charm, thrill, and excitement that the much-loved original boasted. Despite director Amar Kaushik once again being at the helm, and stars Rao and Kapoor reprising their roles, Stree 2 lacks the nuance of the original's sharp plot and, by switching the male victims to women, loses the thoughtful social commentary about gender crimes that added an extra layer to the first film. Instead the movie seems far more concerned with its cameos and in creating a wider supernatural universe (Stree 3 is scheduled for a 2027 release) than with any carefully created plot. The cast all look great, but beyond that the movie falls short of the original in every department.
