What's the Story?

YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE interviews academics, authors, company leaders, whistleblowers, parents, health officials, and more to delve into the efforts to limit the harms of social media use on children and teenagers. The crew follows one mother whose son died by suicide and who helped lead a lobbying effort to pass new legislation to regulate social media together with other mothers who have lost their loved ones. The filmmakers speak with experts about specific aspects of social media (and now AI) that impact teens especially, and how the business model preys upon and harms users. They go to a high school in Massachusetts to interview teens about the positive effects on community and culture that eliminating cell phones in school had, and more.

Following The Social Dilemma, this is another essential documentary for an analysis of the real and potential negative harms of social media. Your Attention Please makes its case in a solid and convincing way, including interviewees that cover a wide range of perspectives on the subject. Having said that, the range can feel overwhelming in feature form. Its makers might have considered breaking the quantity of important interviews and ideas down into episodes, perhaps even as a miniseries.

For example, the European-based Offline Club, the success story of a Massachusetts high school, the moms fighting for legislation, the section on AI—all of these are related yet independent and worthy of exclusive focus. As one source suggests about social platforms in a message relevant to this film, too much information can be overwhelming and undermines our ability to focus. The content and stories here definitely deserve our attention.

  • How did Carson's and other children's mothers demonstrate perseverance both on a personal level and in pushing to get legislation passed? What's the status of KOSPA today?

  • The end credits mention the Spring 2026 cases against Meta in California and Arizona that effectively ended the company's legal immunity. How so? Where can you go for more information?

  • Who is Frances Haugen? Who is Tristan Harris? Where can you find out more information and background about these two key sources?
