Bon Appétit, Your Majesty
What's the Story?
In BON APPĖTIT, YOUR MAJESTY, Yeon ji-Yeong (pop star Im Yoon-ah) wields top-shelf talent as a chef, winning prestigious French cooking competitions, Michelin stars, and accolades. She's transporting an ancient text for her scholar father on her flight home to Korea; the flight doesn't go as planned, and Yeon ji-Yeong finds herself in very unfamiliar territory. Can she channel her chef's skills into something useful? Or will her assertive attitude get her in trouble?
Is It Any Good?
Distilling the attraction of a modern cooking show with the vintage of a period piece, this show nods to two popular K-drama topics. Bon Appétit, Your Majesty features a cheeky heroine who knows just how good she is in the kitchen and doesn't bend a knee to a tyrannical male, who strikes a deal with her that will make or break her.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is a fun binge for fans of K-dramas that sneak a little wobble into the continuum. Its seriousness is tempered with a feisty female character who, like Se-ri in the epic show Crash Landing on You, doesn't let outside circumstances dictate who she is on the inside. Some threats to women in this show might make it more suitable to young teens who know their minds, too.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about curiosity in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. Even when the king is angry, he's still curious about what the strange woman can cook. How do you see curiosity opening your mind to new experiences?
A main character is excellent at the culinary arts. Because she's persevered through trials in her field, she's confident in her skills. How has perseverance in something made you self-confident?
Some of the female characters have to hide, or exhibit self-control so that they don't incur the wrath of the men rounding them up for the king. How do you know when it's better to hold your tongue? How do you know when to speak out?
