Toy-themed movie has a little edge; tons of marketing.

A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.

Positive Messages

Friendship, going to parties, fashion, and looking good are themes.

Positive Role Models & Representations

The B.B.s are kind to one another but sometimes have attitudes and roll their eyes. B.B. Midnight becomes jealous and frustrated, but her friends help her get past it.

Violence & Scariness

There’s no violence, but Midnight wants to ruin the party. There are references to a spooky forest. There's some panicked yelling and a slight tussle between Tahani and Mykal-Michelle, but it's meant to be humorous.

Sexy Stuff

Nothing overtly sexual, but dolls and young girls are accessorized in glittery glam outfits, and are shown strutting on a runway and blowing kisses. The live actors wear a lot of makeup.

Language
Consumerism

It’s a promotional vehicle for the L.O.L. Surprise! franchise. L.O.L. dolls, accessories, and toys like The Chalet are featured.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that L.O.L. Surprise! Winter Disco is a partially animated Amazon special featuring the collectible fashion dolls and accessories from the L.O.L. (Lil' Outrageous Littles) Surprise! toy franchise. Viewers need to be able to read to follow the story. Some of the song and dance performances by the live actors showcase glittery glam costumes and hip hop lyrics that may not feel age-appropriate for very young children. While the dolls and accessories aren’t revealed by unboxing as they are in the L.O.L. Surprise! YouTube videos, the overall event is an obvious promotional vehicle designed to drive sales of merchandise.

Why

It can burn

What's the story?

L.O.L SURPRISE! WINTER DISCO features the antics of a group of dolls known as “B.B.s,” and their efforts to save the biggest party of the season. To entertain the younger Mykal-Michelle Harris when they are stuck inside without power or internet, Tahani Anderson shares a story about B.B. Midnight, who wants to sabotage this year’s Winter Disco after not being invited to perform. It’s up to the rest of the B.B.s to figure out how to save the event, which is promised to be the coolest party ever.

Is it any good?

The colorful streaming event offers a lighthearted story featuring all the characters and accessories the franchise has to offer. The L.O.L. Surprise! universe, which is a spinoff of the popular YouTube series titled Unboxed! L.O.L. Surprise! , is colorfully animated, and the conversations between the B.B. dolls are presented as text messages (with subtitles to translate the emojis), which makes it difficult for young non-readers to follow. Meanwhile, the song and dance numbers performed by Tahani Anderson and Mykal-Michelle Harris are fun, but their glam outfits and hip hop songs sometimes have a slight edge to them. No doubt that young B.B. fans will want to tune in, but L.O.L. Surprise! Winter Disco is best for a slightly older set.
