What's the Story?
In PITCH PERFECT: BUMPER IN BERLIN, Bumper Allen (Adam Devine, Pitch Perfect), a music-loving security guard at a college, loves jamming out with his acapella group after work, but his life isn't going on the musical trajectory he'd dreamt of. Until he gets a call from an acapella star-turned music producer (Flula Borg) in Berlin, Germany. Apparently, Bumper's TikTok mashup of some European hits from the 1980's has gone viral, and he's a hot commodity in Germany. Bumper boards a plane and appears in Berlin, ready to perform. He discovers there are some holes in the story, but he's encouraged by a new friend named Heidi (Sarah Hyland, Modern Family) to trust himself and get creative. Can Bumper really make the big time in Germany? Or will he mess up his big chance to live his dream?
Is It Any Good?
Goofy and upbeat, this spin-off of the Pitch Perfect movies makes for fun, fluffy entertainment. Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin benefits from the backdrop of an international city -- especially one as cynical as Berlin. Bumper's the goofball American comedic foil to the jaded Berliners, which allows the (otherwise mediocre) jokes to land rather well.
Fans of the Pitch Perfect series will surely enjoy this silly romp. There are too many drug references and sexual innuendos for tweens, but teens and parents can get into the groove for a weekend of binging this show together.
