Resurrected Rides
What's the Story?
RESURRECTED RIDES is an unscripted series that features a team of automotive experts people's old cars new and hip makeovers. After playing a prank on someone who was nominated for the series, Chris Redd rides with them in their old, dilapidated, and often unsafe car to learn more about everything that's wrong with it. Once the car makes it to the garage, fabricator Don Abenante, mechanic Lacey Blair, interior restorers and siblings Saul and Oscar Valencia, and painter Shayna Guy come up with a plan and rebuild it into a fantasy vehicle. Adding to the creative fun is Steve Nelson, who comes up with unique, one-of-a-kind gadgets that are specific to the car owner's wants or needs. They only have a few days to get it done, but they always manage to finish in time for the big reveal.
Is It Any Good?
The fun series, which is an updated version of MTV's Pimp My Ride (2004-2007), offers viewers a chance to see how old cars are taken apart, rebuilt, and updated into one-of-a-kind vehicles. In each Resurrected Rides episode the team pulls pieces of the cars apart, struggles with retrofits, and designs and fabricates functional, unique parts that will help the car's owner in their daily lives. Meanwhile, Chris Redd offers some comic relief, spending time with the owners and learning more about what they do (or plan to do) with their cars. Explanations about the specific ways the cars are being overhauled are limited, but everything that happens inevitably leads up to the big, flashy reveals. Granted, some of the design choices are over-the-top, and in some cases not completely up to code, but you can't help but be impressed by the work that's done.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the way each vehicle looks after it's overhauled by the garage team. How many hours do you think it takes to do each one? Why don't audiences get to see more of the process?
Unlike Pimp My Ride, Resurrected Rides features female automotive experts on the garage team. Why is this an important update?
