SpongeBob & Sandy's Country Christmas Special
What's the Story?
In SPONGEBOB & SANDY'S COUNTRY CHRISTMAS, Sandy (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence) is working on a special gift for the community: a formula that grows instant Christmas trees. When her family from Texas arrives unannounced, her nieces play with the invention to impress Santa but accidentally cause a mishap. With Santa (Lewis Black) incapable of delivering presents, SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and Sandy must find a solution to bring Christmas back to Bikini Bottom. Will they succeed?
Is It Any Good?
Production is beautiful, but the story could have more depth. While the amazing stop-motion animation alone is a reason to watch this special, the main message in SpongeBob & Sandy's Country Christmas can get lost in the funny gags that are more likely to entertain parents than younger viewers. Still, there are other fun elements that will please fans of the series: from the return to stop motion to some of the classic nonsense silliness and Sandy reuniting with her family. The original songs are the cherry on top—you probably won't mind hearing them on repeat!
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the stop-motion technique used in SpongeBob & Sandy's Country Christmas. Do you know how stop-motion films are made? How long do you think it takes to create a special like this?
Do you remember where Sandy's family is from? If you live in Texas, or know someone from there, do you think the show does a good representation of its residents?
Gifts are a part of Christmas in many parts of the world, but Christmas is much more than that. What are some of the elements associated with having "the Christmas spirit"?
