What's the Story?
Starstruck begins when Jessie (Rose Matafeo) meets Tom (Nikesh Patel) in the men's bathroom at a club. The two take a liking to one another and spend the night together; the next morning, Jessie discovers that Tom is a major celebrity (whose agent is played by Minnie Driver). Then Jessie must figure out how to juggle her budding relationship with Tom as well as the rest of her chaotic dating life.
Is It Any Good?
Rose Malafeo has an easy charm and wit that makes her fun to root for; beyond that, there's not a lot to this romcom, which just follows Malafeo's Jessie through the ups and downs of her dating life. The main Starstruck thread sees Jessie and her celebrity paramour Tom (Nikesh Patel) fall together and apart and together and apart as they get to know each other. It's easy to watch, but other than Malafeo Starstruck doesn't really have any standout aspects to it, which makes watching it less of a heavy love affair and more of a pleasant way to pass the time.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about Jessie. What is Jessie's day-to-day life like? What makes her unique? Why do we root for her?
What are some of the complications that come up when Jessie and Tom start dating? How do they deal with these problems? In which ways are they successful or unsuccessful?
How does Starstruck view celebrity? How does it present Tom's life as unique? What's interesting about a show about someone dating a celebrity?
