The Killing Kind
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
Based on Irish author Jane Casey's novel of the same name, THE KILLING KIND is a British series about a lawyer who successfully defended a man against stalking charges, and now fears that she has become his long-term target. Emma Appleton plays Ingrid Lewis, a talented defense barrister who, two years prior, defended John Webster (Colin Morgan) against stalking charges. Lewis eventually becomes a target of Webster's obsession, and is now rebuilding her life after a tragedy that she wonders if he played a part in. When Webster suddenly makes an appearance around the time her friend and mentor Belinda Gray (Sara Powell) suddenly dies, her suspicions grow, and she sets out to convince Detective Sergeant Luke Nash (Kerr Logan) that Gray's death was not an accident.
Is It Any Good?
The eerie crime thriller offers an entertaining story that underscores the British legal system's inability to convict stalkers, and the blame it places on victims for not being able to do so. The Killing Kind's overall plot centers on Ingrid Lewis, who as a successful lawyer perpetuates, and in her personal life becomes victim to, the prevailing idea that women invite harassment and abuse from men through their dress, behavior, and lifestyle choices. Against the backdrop of this conversation, the details of the crime unfold with the through flashbacks that are meant to help viewers understand the complicated events that fuel Lewis' paranoia about John Webster. Fans of dark thrillers will find The Killing Kind a worthy viewing choice.
