What parents need to know

Positive messages

Users are generally encouraged to keep going and are rewarded when they advance in a game.

Violence

There's some typical game violence ("kills this, blast that") but nothing too gory.

Sex

Language

No profanity, but game characters or instructions are unpredictable. For example, one game says it's not responsible if "this game drives you into a homicidal rampage," though that's more in reference to the game being frustrating than involving killing.

Consumerism

Most games are provided by third parties and some are demo versions that ask users to pay more to play more. The site itself has ads and gathers data about where you click to determine what ads to show.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

Privacy & safety

Kids can play endlessly without giving up any personal information or creating a login. A detailed privacy policy describes how the site collects and uses information about its visitors.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that BrainBashers Games is a huge collection of free third-party and original games. Though the games are simple, they can be habit forming. A very detailed disclaimer and privacy policy explains that BrainBashers Games allows third-party advertising and uses cookies, analytics, and other monitoring software to collect data about its visitors. Hey, at least they’re honest. Nothing personally identifiable is recorded and the site even has instructions about how to opt out of some of its information gathering. Parents should read the disclaimer and make changes as they see fit.

What's it about?

Kids can access all kinds of games on the site’s homepage. The sheer amount of games may be overwhelming, but categories like \"Featured Games,\" \"Mazes,\" \"Arcade Games,\" and \"Word Games\" and a \"Top 10\" list help kids choose. Once they pick a game to play, kids will either use the mouse or keyboard to move characters or game pieces. Some games display high scores and allow players to enter their names if they beat them.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

BRAINBASHERSGAMES.COM site owner Kevin Stone’s longtime love of gaming and puzzling is evident with this impressive collection of strategy, arcade, word, classic, and physics-based online games. Don’t be fooled by the low price point (free), unsophisticated graphics, and simple rules of play; games have just the right mix of challenge, frustration, and success to pass an hour or three. All games have instructions, some have reviews, and there’s no additional equipment required.  BrainBashers Games are all single-player, which is perfectly fine in an environment of popular high-def and high-dollar massively multiplayer online games -- there’s room for both at the gaming table.
