Mature #BookTok Books

Last updated: July 13, 2026

When books go viral on #BookTok, readers take notice, often catapulting those books into instant bestsellers—and right onto teens' radar. From romance, fantasy, and romantasy (romance + fantasy) to classics, memoirs, mysteries, and more, the books on this list have (mostly) been written for adult readers, have older main characters, and often include mature content like graphic violence, explicit sex, and lots of swearing and/or substance use. Some include romantic or sexual relationships with unhealthy or even dangerous behaviors (including abuse, manipulation, and ambiguous or nonconsensual sex acts). Others may focus on drug or alcohol dependency, and many cover topics that teens are unlikely to be facing (marriage, divorce, careers, aging, etc.). But that doesn't mean that teens aren't interested in these #BookTok hits. This list will help parents and caregivers get familiar with the edgier content their teens may be encountering. Talk to your teens about it and help them figure out what kinds of books they're into, and why. For popular reads that are written specifically for teens, check out Teen Books Trending on #BookTok and Best Book Series for Teens.
